Sally’s teenage daughter found her moving portrayal of her character’s jail ordeal so upsetting she couldn’t bear to watch.

Shocked viewers recently saw Sally beaten up and then almost stabbed after being wrongfully jailed for fraud. And while Hattie is normally a big fan of Coronation Street, she didn’t enjoy seeing her mum in tears.

“Hattie couldn’t watch it,” Sally recalls. “She didn’t like me being beaten up and whenever I had a scene where I was on the phone crying, she’d go, ‘Oh Mum, I can’t Gina sets her watch it!’ and sights on Tim we’d have to switch it off.

“She didn’t enjoy it and I understand that – she didn’t want to see her mum crying. Even though she’s read the lines with me, it’s still hard watching it.”

While Sally was in jail, her sister Gina (Connie Hyde) attempted to seduce Sally’s screen husband Tim. In scenes to be screened shortly, Gina attempts to build bridges, but when the factory girls plan a night out, unforgiving Sally only agrees on the condition that Gina won’t be there.

“She’s not going to forgive Gina for nearly stealing her husband, but I feel terrible being awful to her, because Connie is so lovely!” Sally laughs.
