No such thing as a free lunch? There’s a heap of fun freebies to get your hands on if you know where to look!

1 Birthday Cake

Plenty of cafés and restaurant­s offer birthday freebies if you sign up to the mailing list or download their app. You can celebrate your birthday with a free cupcake from Greggs if you download its Rewards app, get free cake at Patisserie Valerie by signing up to its Cake Club, and joining the mailing list gets you a free doughnut at Krispy Kreme.

2 Fitness Classes

Lots of local parks have free fitness classes. And exercising outside means you’re getting some fresh air too! You can do ever ything from yoga and Tai Chi to family fitness and circuit training. Just pop your postcode into WWW.OURPARKS.ORG.UK for details.

3 Sight Tests

If you’re over 60, you get a free NHS eye test worth around £25 and everyone gets a free one in Scotland. Lots of places including Boots, ther pharmacies and Specsavers offer free hearing tests, too.

4 A Day Out At The Palace

Take the train and cash in with 2- for-1 tickets on days out including Hampton Court Palace, Kew Gardens, the Churchill War Rooms and Royal Pavilion at Brighton. Check WWW.DAYSOUTGUI­DE. CO.UK for ideas, download your voucher and just show it with your train ticket as you go in. It means if you buy one entry ticket, the other one is absolutely free so you and a friend can take it in turns to enjoy a freebie!

6 City Tours

Packing a guidebook is great, but better still is a tour from one of the locals to discover backstreet­s and hidden gems. Sandemans host free walking tours in 20 cities around the world including Edinburgh, Liverpool and London within the UK.
