Pembrokeshire Coastal Drive, Wales

-

A driving tour of Pembrokeshire will take you up the coast from Tenby to Milford Haven, St David’s and Fishguard. You’ll head down lots of little roads to gorgeous countryside spots with great costal views.

Tenby is a popular holiday destination, with glorious beaches, a vibrant town centre, a pretty harbour and cruises to Caldey Island. Take a day trip and learn about the monks who live on Caldey – you might meet one or two. Not far from Tenby is the magnificent Carew Castle and Tidal Mill, overlooking a 23-acre millpond – a great place for history buffs.

Travel north to Pembroke, where the stunning castle welcomes living history groups at weekends in peak season. Exhibitions and waxwork displays take you through the story of the castle, while villagers re-enact medieval life on the lawns. Guided walks and talks are included in the admission fee.

At Milford Haven there’s a pretty harbour and museum.

Nearby Marlow’s Peninsula is a lovely place for a walk on a sunny day. Seals are often spotted on the beaches below the cliffs. Travel north to Little Haven, which has good beaches and is a popular spot for surfing.

Up the coast, St David’s is a popular destination, not least because of the beautiful coastal routes, quaint village and incredible cathedral. Wildlife cruises leave from St David’s shores to see the islands of Ramsey, Grassholm and Skomer. You might spot puffins, gannets, porpoises, dolphins or whales. Seals can be seen frolicking in the water from the coastal path. WWW.THOUSANDISLANDS.CO.UK/BOAT-TRIPS
