WAS ACTUALLY EASIER THAN UN-LOCKDOWN?
I have to be honest this week – I’ve felt a little uneasy about it all. But when I sat down and asked myself why I was feeling like this, I realised I was losing perspective.
This is something every reality TV programme monumentally relies on its contestants doing – and having walked that line, I thought I’d have a pragmatic talk to myself and to you.
The fact is, the magical vaccine isn’t going to be around for a very long time, and it’s impractical to stay locked in our homes like a germophobe hermit until that day arrives.
Therefore, it’s imperative that we emerge responsibly from our Covid bubble and, with viral vigilance and social distancing, connect with our family and friends, go to work if we can, and be “normal”.
We can’t equate lives to money, but we also can’t change the fact that money makes the world go round and without it we endanger our entire infrastructure – which includes the NHS and a plethora of our valued charities and services.
So, let’s be practical and not forget we have lived with danger all of our lives.
Each year 6,000 of us die from accidents in the home, 78,000 die from smoking, 300,000 from obesity, while heart and circulatory diseases take around 170,000.
