NEED TO PAINT MY FRONT DOORDO BUT IT HAS A HUGE CRACK. CAN I FIX IT?

“Sure!” says Chris Moorhouse, Wickes category director for décor, building and gardens. “First, remove flaky paint with a putty knife, then sand down and wipe with a cloth. Once complete, you will need a wood filler and wood hardener.

“Wickes Super Tough Wood Filler (550g, £11) and the Wickes Wet Rot Wood Hardener (500ml, £10) work hand-in-hand to reinforce and harden wood which has been filled and/or affected by wet rot.

“Mix the filler and catalyst hardener together, and apply within the crack using a putty knife. Allow to harden. Trim off any excess with a utility knife, sand until smooth and wipe with a clean cloth. Apply caulk around panels with a caulking gun, and allow to dry completely. You’re now ready to paint!” www.myweekly.co.uk

considered rather than chaotic.

“If you’re looking for something a little more subtle, a selection of floral cushions will embrace the new season without the need to commit to a larger investment.

“Consider the prints and colours of your chosen florals carefully – it’s important to strike a balance between matching and clashing. For example, vibrant prints can work well with subtle, painterly blooms if they share similar shades and tones.”

Another way to incorporate florals is in flooring; think luscious blooms in Axminster carpeting or the intricate swirls of an oriental rug. “Carpets that feature florals in a geometric pattern are particularly eye-catching and can add a formal note to the room, while remaining stylishly understated,” says Jemma Dayton of Carpetright.

“One of the easiest and most affordable ways to incorporate colourful statement flowers is to use a bright, bold rug. The variety of hues in a floral rug will allow for an eclectic selection of furniture and accessories.

“Opting for flooring that shares a colour with something else in the room, such as the walls or sofa, will help make the scheme cohesive.”
