For any avid golf player, the Old Course at St Andrews is widely recognised as the home of golf.

This course has welcomed many golfing greats over the years. From Tiger Woods to Jack Nicklaus, thousands of professionals and amateurs have played on these famous fairways.

This course has hosted the Open Championship since 1873 and is a regular fixture on the golfing calendar. Anyone and everyone is welcome at the course. Even if golfing isn’t your thing, the guided tour of the course and its history alone is well worth the visit.

While you’re in the town stop off at The Cottage Kitchen for a slice of carrot cake and tea, or The Jigger Inn for something a bit stronger!

Moving to Northern Ireland, nestled beneath the Mourne Mountains in Newcastle is Royal County Down Golf Club. This course is one of the oldest in the country, and one of Rory McIlroy’s favourites. Everywhere you turn you’re greeted by a beautiful view. The sandy shores of Dundrum Bay are right beside you so a post-game walk along the sands is highly recommended. If you’re looking for other places to visit while in the area why not have a picnic in Tollymore Forest Park? Its stepping stones will keep the kids entertained while you take a break from the golf.

If you prefer to golf away from the crowds, then the remote Machrihanish golf course in Argyll is what you’re looking for. Boasting fantastic sea views this rural course is the perfect place for a quiet game. While you’re there stop off at the Tin Roof Diner for a hearty meal after the perfect game.
