As someone who has been a social worker, mother, wife and divorcee I have been around the block a few times. I’m humbled to answer your questions and feel that if a problem can be shared it can be halved – at the very least.

She is just trying to protect her family, so respect her position and move forward slowly

definitively predict what this virus can do. Your husband, as an ambulance driver, is at increased risk, and your daughter, like most of us, is both scared and cautious of possible consequences. However, you can come to an arrangement to keep contact regular and meaningful. Zoom calls (or the equivalent) and FaceTiming really are a blessing when it comes to staying connected on a day to day basis. Also, you could suggest meeting your daughter on her own to start with. Choose a park and maintain social distance and try to have a light-hearted exchange about how you are both coping. If it goes well and is risk free, your daughter may choose to bring her daughter the next time. Respect her position and move forward slowly. She is entitled to want to protect her family as you are there to protect yours. I’m sure both you and she are rightly proud of your husband’s work.
