EI HAVE AN OLD PINE CHEST THAT HAHAS BEEN STAINED ORANGE. IS IT POSSIBLE TO RETURN IT TO ITS NATURAL STATE OR MAKE IT LESS ORANGE?
“If you’re referring to a physical stain or dirty mark on solid wood, the best solution would be to lightly sand the affected area with a very fine grit sandpaper, 120 or 180,” says Chris Moorhouse, Wickes category director for décor, building and gardens. “This may lightly remove the stain while not impacting the rest of the wood. However, if you’re looking to remove a stain or varnish, we recommend using a chemical based product such as Nitromors Paint & Varnish Remover (Wickes, £17). Paint the wood with the Nitromors, leave for some time and then remove the product with a scraper. Lightly sand down, depending how much stain is left, with a rough to medium grit (80-100) and then a fine grit (120-180) to finish.” www.myweekly.co.uk
