Adopt A Relaxed Attitude!

-

Most of us are expecting Christmas to be a relatively quiet experience this year. But there’s still hope we’ll be able to meet with friends and family, even if it’s in small socially distanced groups. So, how can we make the best of the time we have together?

Keep things simple. You want to enjoy the festive experience, not end up in a stressed-out frenzy about preparations. So if you’re hosting, prepare the menu well ahead of time, but be flexible too. Covid-related panic buying might lead to shortages in shops, so be prepared to compromise if your preferred food choices are out of stock. Take a relaxed attitude to Christmas this year, and if plans go awry because of the pandemic, try to laugh about it and accept compromises. Let stressors go. If dinner goes fairly smoothly, it’s a big win and something to be proud of after a challenging year.

Avoid contentious topics of conversation like politics, Brexit, or even lockdown restrictions. After all, you don’t want Uncle Harry getting upset because someone disagrees with his stance on Boris’s handling of the pandemic! Think about non-contentious topics that might soothe the path to a happy social experience this

THIS YEAR, BE PREPARED TO COMPROMISE IF NEEDED

Christmas. Pets, holidays, weather and hobbies are generally good topics for harmonious social interactions. Why not prepare a quiz, or try charades? like you’ve overeaten? Indigestion is common at Christmas, when everyone enjoys rich foods, overindulges and generally eats too much. Try to adopt good digestive habits, by eating early, chewing your food thoroughly before swallowing, spacing out courses and taking your time.

If rich food at Christmas gives you digestive problems, probiotic capsules (healthy bacteria) may help. Alternatively, just pop some live yogurt on your Christmas pudding – the friendly bacteria in live yogurt supports digestive health and might help things go down.

Peppermint or ginger are also available as supplemental digestive aids. However, the best approach to a happy tummy at Christmas is to moderate your consumption and not eat too much, or too quickly. Keeping stress to a minimum can help too!
