Amelia Plummer and Josh Moss

Love Island Australia’s Josh and Amelia dish on what happened after they left the famous villa

- NIKITA LEE

Viewers might have been deprived of a new series of Love Island this year, but thankfully our Aussie pals came to the rescue with an incredible series of their own. Like a beautiful gift from the not too distant past, Love Island Australia,

filmed two years ago, blessed us with a whole new crop of hopefuls who were looking to find The One.

After trying his luck with a handful of girls in the Spanish villa, everything changed for

Josh Moss on day 23 when brunette beauty Amelia Plummer arrived on the island. And fans will be pleased to know that the genetically blessed pair are as smitten as ever, and are the only couple from their season to have gone the distance. Impressive!

“We’re the last ones standing!” says Josh, 26, laughing. “There were a lot of people who were doubting our relationship and calling it a showmance, but we stayed true to ourselves and never listened to the outside noise.”

One glance at their Instagram pages and any doubters will see the couple’s love story since leaving the show fully documented, with the pair travelling together to tropical islands, hitting the social scene in Sydney’s trendy Eastern Suburbs and supporting each other’s projects, like 24-year-old Amelia’s online vegan cookbook, Meals By Mils.

When chats to the loved-up reality stars, they’ve just got back from a winter getaway in New South Wales, a much-needed holiday after a long stretch in isolation thanks to coronavirus. Next up? A possible move cross-country and into their first home together…

Hey guys! You’re Love Island Australia’s only surviving couple…

Amelia: It’s interesting looking back on it and me realising my thought process at the time. I was very aware of protecting myself and making sure I wasn’t getting rejected. It’s just funny to see

– I wish I could have told myself, “It’s fine, he actually likes you.” Josh: And it’s a lot of pressure. You’ve got to talk about your feelings, which on a day-to-day basis is not something people are used to. Also a day in there is like a week outside, so things move at a rapid pace, which is quite an unnatural setting.

Where is your relationship at now? Are you living together?

Josh: We don’t live together yet. We saw a lot of people coming off the show and moving in straight away, and a lot of relationships crumble when things are rushed. Amelia: I feel like you see a lot of public reality relationships, and everything moves quite quickly… they’re moving in, they’re getting engaged, they’re having babies. I think the pressure comes from outside, with people asking, “When’s this, when’s that happening?” People want to see things progress really quickly, which is lovely, but in reality it’s quite quick to move in. We haven’t even been together two years so babies are definitely not for a while yet. I’m only 24!

Josh, what qualities do you love most about Amelia?

Josh: Oh, I don’t know if we have enough time! The one thing that stood out to me straightaway is that she’s probably one of the first people I can truly be myself around – I don’t have to filter anything, I don’t have to watch what I say. And she brings out the best in me, which is something I’ve never had before with a girl. Obviously she’s beautiful, but the connection we share is something really unique.

Amelia: Aw, that’s so cute!

How about you, Amelia? What makes Josh The One for you?

Josh: You better live up to my answer!

Amelia: Josh is such a sweet, humble, warm, caring, emotional person. He’s also quirky, which is a massive thing. He loves me for being weird – we’re always doing weird things together. This might sound odd but he’s almost like my girlfriend! But obviously my lover as well.

Do you ever fight?

Amelia: I try to be quite honest on Instagram that we do fight… but we always come out stronger. In the moment you’re angry at each other, but we manage to talk rationally afterwards. Josh: I feel like a lot of people look at our relationship on social media and think we’re just this perfect couple who never argue or never get into confrontations with each other, but we’re definitely just a normal couple at the end of the day.

Any big plans for your two-year anniversary in August?

Amelia: I’m dying to go somewhere hotter. We were thinking Byron Bay… Josh: We were planning on going overseas somewhere really nice, but obviously with corona we can’t do that. I think I’ll be let off the hook this year if it’s not amazing!

Who do you stay in touch with from Love Island?

Amelia: One of my best friends to this day is Millie Fuller, I literally adore that girl so much. I’m so lucky that I’ve got a best friend and a boyfriend out of the show. Josh: When I was in the villa, Dom Thomas was one of those guys who was so similar to me. We just clicked immediately.

Was there anyone in there you didn’t like?

Josh: The villa divide was actually legit. There were people from our show who wanted to physically attack each other! Some days were so awkward, people weren’t talking to each other…

Amelia: I remember coming in and I was like, “Oh my God!”

Josh: I couldn’t keep up with who hated who. You could have made another show with the drama afterwards.

Would you two be keen to do another reality show?

Amelia: Yeah, definitely, obviously not a dating one!

Josh: I’d love to do something else if it was the right show. Love Island was so much fun, a once-in-alifetime experience and some of my best memories are from there. I’d consider doing a show with Amelia. Celebrity Big Brother would be cool!

Are there any other plans on the horizon for you guys?

Amelia: We were thinking of maybe moving to Queensland next year… I need to go somewhere hotter.

Josh: Maybe Burleigh Heads.

We won’t pretend we know where that is! How was your recent getaway together?

Amelia: We went to the south coast, just for two nights, and it’s so beautiful there but I just can’t do the cold! I can’t deal. I think it’s important to do little holidays and kind of reset the relationship, especially now with nothing else to do.

How did you guys cope with the recent lockdown period?

Josh: We were in New Zealand when it ramped up a lot and isolating came into play, so we had to leave our holiday early which was so annoying. We went back to Sydney and we had to do the two-week isolation together which was so difficult.

Amelia: But we definitely got through it stronger. It has been nice just seeing that our relationship is still going well even though the times are kind of low. It’s a testament to our relationship.
