The presenter wants to inspire other women
Loose Women star Saira Khan has revealed she’s feeling her best ever after turning 50. Saira, who celebrated her birthday in May with her husband Steve Hyde and their children Zac, 12, and Amara, nine, was speaking on Jenny Powell’s Hot Mess Mums
Club podcast when she raved about reaching the milestone age.
“I’ve been dying to get to 50 for probably the last five years. It’s like, I’m here, I’ve arrived and I can now say I’m 50 years old and I honestly can tell you it’s the best I’ve ever felt in my life,” Saira said.
The presenter has been on a fitness mission in lockdown, admitting she was spurred into action when she tried to get into an old pair of jeans. “I couldn’t get them past my knees, no word of a lie. And I thought, ‘Hold on a minute, this ain’t right!’ So it gave me a bit of a purpose,” Saira explained.
But the down-to-earth star, who regularly posts her home workouts on Instagram, says exercise is about feeling good, not aspiring to impossible ideals. “We’ve all been brainwashed by looking at 20-year-old bodies. I’ve had a caesarean, I’m 50, I’m on HRT. I want to be fit, but I’m never going to get to that form again,” she said.
“I was like that in my twenties, but I’m 50 now so let’s see real 50-year-olds working out because that’s inspirational. I challenge any 20-year-old to come and do burpees with me.
I’ll thrash ’em!”
Opening up, the former Apprentice star admitted she’s had a tough journey to get to such a positive place.
“For most of my life I’ve had to overcome so many obstacles – being born to immigrant parents in the 70s, the whole cultural thing – and now at 50 I don’t give a damn what other people think,” she said.
There’s clearly no stopping Saira, who jetted to Jason Vale’s Juicy Oasis retreat in Portugal last week to continue her health mission. “I’m daring myself to go further than I ever imagined,” she captioned a recent post.
