Pop into the racecourse beer garden

-

FOLLOWING the success of Pub in the Paddock on Saturday and Sunday, Newbury Racecourse has announced more dates this weekend.

The event – billed as “a pop-up beer garden experience” – will be held from tomorrow (Friday) through to Sunday.

The racecourse welcomed around 500 visitors last weekend to enjoy the racing coverage from both Epsom and Sandown along with Premier League action, all of which was played on the big screen overlooking the paddock.

Racecourse chief executive Julian Thick said an outside bar with food concessions and free wi-fi kept everyone well provided for throughout the afternoon.

He added: “We’ve been absolutely delighted with the response to our ‘pop-up’ beer garden.

“We were unsure how popular it would prove, but it’s been fantastic to welcome annual members, some of our residents and regular racing customers as well as several first-time visitors to the racecourse.

“The classic British weather didn’t put people off and we hope the space will become a regular destination for anyone looking for a socially-distanced and safe environment to enjoy a drink with family and friends.

“We appreciate that people are still nervous about venturing outside, but we hope that given the space we have at the racecourse, some of these fears have been alleviated.

“We are looking forward to opening this weekend and showing the racing action from Newmarket, plus Premier League football.”

Aligned to Government guidelines around pubs reopening, contact details are captured in advance or on arrival at the racecourse and held securely for 28 days before being destroyed.

All customers are asked to use hand sanitiser on entry and adhere to social distancing rules at all times.

Cashless payments only are in operation.

The opening times are as follows:

Tomorrow: 1pm until late, with ITV’s coverage from Newmarket Racecourse featuring the July Festival.

Saturday: 1pm until late, with ITV’s coverage from Newmarket Racecourse featuring the July Festival, Premier League football including Sheffield United versus Chelsea.

Sunday: noon to 6.30pm, withPremier League football from noon.

The pop-up beer garden is free to enter on the day, but reserved seating is available.
