Amber and Harry are virtual stars

Team Kennet athletes take part in lockdown challenge

TEAM Kennet Athletes took part in a Virtual Club Championsh­ips Lockdown Challenge in their gardens, local park or even in the road last month.

There were seven events for athletes to tackle – standing long jump, standing triple jump, 10x10m sprint, toilet roll high jump, chest push, speed bounce and overhead behind throw.

Under-11 event winners Amber Stiles and Harry Fenner scored well throughout, Amber bouncing 80 times in 30 seconds in speed bounce, while Harry’s best performanc­e was his overhead behind throw of 13.60m.

William McDonald controlled the jumps by winning these with 1.95m in long and 5.56m in triple.

The under-13s saw another good entry, Zoe Allen winning the girls thanks to a 2.14m long jump and 6.70m triple.

Bethany MacLean bounced a very impressive 90 times in 30 seconds, while James Fenner leapt over eight toilet rolls.

In the under-9 age group, Isla Ladds produced a very impressive display of throwing and another good speed bounce of 70 in 30 seconds.

Luke Stiles was the boys winner with a fine overhead behind throw of 7.18m.

The Seniors saw Martine Stiles win the female category with another good speed bounce of 83 in 90 seconds.

And Steve MacLean won the male section thanks to a huge 20.29m overhead behind throw.

Hayley Steward clocked 27.2 in the 10x10m to finish runner-up in the females, while the male runner-up was to Jonjo Stiles, whose best performanc­e was 26.8 in the 10x10m.

Only two girls took part in the under-15s, Annabel MacLean edging out Aimee Dickson.

MacLean cleared 2.14m in the long jump and bounded 86 times, while Aimee’s best effort was

9.80m in the chest push.
