Rob leads by example

WEST Berks men’s captain Rob Bridgeman won the June medal with a gross 84, net 69.

There was a tie for second place on net 70 and Jason Read edged out Keith Wilkins and Martin Drew on countback.

Ian Haines won the midweek stableford with 41 points, while John Harrod (36) beat in-form Bridgeman on countback to take second place.

There were 25 entries in the Wednesday nine-hole qualifier for the Liddiard Cup of which 17 players scored the 19 points or more to qualify for the final in August.

It took a fine score of 24 points from Pete Hill to win on the day, while Kevin Thorne with 22 points beat Christy Whelehan on countback to take second.

Renee Wheeler won the ladies’ ‘booster stableford’ in which the score on three holes – the fifth, 11th and 15th – carried double points.

Renee scored 40 points, followed by Pat Treacy with 37, while Gale McAuley was one point further behind in third.
