HUNGERFORD Town boss Danny Robinson is up for the challenge as the club returns to pre-season training, under strict measures.

The Crusaders are due to kick-start their pre-season preparations on Saturday, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the session will be altered.

Robinson has insisted that the safety of his players and staff is the number one priority.

He said: “We have to make sure that our players are safe and that is the most important thing, but me, Darts [Andy Darnton] and Bowes [Keith Pennicott-Bowen] will get on with it and work within the guidelines.

“Although we’re very excited to be back, it’s going to be a while before we’re back to what people see normal.”

The former Thatcham boss is hoping restrictions can be eased in the coming weeks.

He said: “You can’t do much because there isn’t any contact allowed and only five players can work in a group with a coach.

“It’s tough, but we have to stick to the guidelines and hopefully in the next few weeks they can be lifted further.”

Town will be joined by latest signing Keith Emmerson, who arrives at the club after spells with Winchester City, Taunton Town and Farnborough.

The 37-year-old will bring a wealth of experience and has captained the Army FA team.

“One thing you get with the army lads is that they are fit and both their attitude and application is key,” said Robinson.

“I have known Keith for a very long time and he has the burning desire to play at this level and be a winner.

“It’s a big signing for us, not just with what he can do on the pitch, but what he’ll bring into the changing rooms.”

“I worked with Matt Day last year and he was unbelievable for the changing room because he commanded it and I feel Keith is the same character.

“It will give players the mentality of not wanting to be beaten in games, so I am excited to be working with him.”

Robinson was speaking after the club announced a new twoyear shirt sponsorship deal with Bewley Homes.

The new deal will see the club receive two new kits and Robinson said: “I am looking forward to the shirt sponsorship deal and all the advertisement across the board.

“People don’t have the money to spend like they did before, but we’re grateful to anyone that will be sponsoring us.”
