Online exercise to help the vulnerable
Wellness therapists pool experience to offer classes for all ages
A PAIR of wellness practitioners are launching a specialist service for older people – with online taster sessions planned for January.
Mindset-Massage is the brainchild of Debbie Medlin, from Leckamphstead, and Mandy Nicholls, from Newbury.
The two women have two decades of experience between them in mental health and massage therapy.
Having met last year, they set out to find ways to use their skills to help vulnerable people in West Berkshire.
They will begin MindsetMassage’s programme with a seated chair exercise class on January 12, between 11am and noon, with participants able to access the class via live video link.
Regular exercise is recommended for all older adults, especially with large numbers currently isolating, as it offers clear benefits for people’s mental as well as physical health.
Mrs Medlin said: “The effect on people’s mental health as a result of the coronavirus pandemic has been huge, and we just knew we could use our skills to reach out and support those in need.
“There will be a range of classes suitable for all ages and
abilities, with the events providing a free taster session of mild-tomoderate exercise, stretching and relaxation over live video links.”
Mrs Nicholls said: “We have been thinking how, using our skills, we could help particularly vulnerable people.
“As a result, we are very excited to announce the launch of our Live Video Seated Chair Exercise sessions, starting early next year, to help improve the wellbeing of the more vulnerable, less-abled members of our local community.”
Mindset-Massage has recently received some grant funding to be allocated to a registered charity by the end of December.
The funding is to be used by a local charitable organisation in accessing Mindset-Massage’s services. Any eligible good cause – ideally one dedicated to caring for the elderly, disabled or other vulnerable groups – is encouraged to get in touch.
