Imagine we had Gavin as MP instead of Laura

-

I WAS out walking, in a sociallydistanced fashion, with a friend the other evening, discussing the catastrophic tenancy of Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson at 10 Downing Street, and the relative merits of his cabinet colleagues when a thought hit us.

What would it be like to have an MP who actually did something, however calamitous.

We imagined not having Laura Farris but Gavin Williamson as our representative; we became a little jealous of the voters in South Staffs. Since her election in 2020, it would be difficult to notice that Laura Farris actually exists.

When she is removed from office at the next election would anybody in Newbury remember she represented us just 24 hours later?

She has from her first day in office been a non-MP for the people of Newbury.

And then we compared her to Gavin Williamson, Minister of State for Education.

We have the Beacon Hill of political capability, South Staffs have the

Everest of incompetence, who on leaving base camp chose the Chuckle Brothers as his sherpas.

As Laura struggles to fill the political shoes of the Clarks toddler section, South Staffs have an MP who would stretch the toes of Coco the Clown’s largest footwear.

We play hide and seek with the invisible woman of small town politics, South Staffs have a headline-grabbing fatuous front-page fool, whose every action is worthy of national news, as he single-handedly destroys our children’s educational and economic futures.

And then we considered how galling this must be to MPs like Laura.

In a ship of fools, Williamson must, by the very nature he hasn’t been fired, be the most qualified individual the Conservative and Unionist Party has to run our children’s education.

During a health crisis the Government has turned into economic and social Armageddon he is the first and only choice to lead our children to the promised land.

Out of 355 MPs in the party, he is the man the Prime Minister trusts and backs most to tackle an issue that defines the future prospects of our entire nation; our children.

Imagine being a Conservative and Unionist MP and you aren’t good enough to replace Gavin Williamson as Minister of State for Education.

So, South Staffs, we salute you.

When and if this is all over, the people of Newbury will choose another MP and the current incumbent will quietly and quickly fade from our memories.

The memory of Williamson will live on way beyond the year of damage he has inflicted on the futures of so many young people who in their hour of need deserved better.

That Laura wasn’t seen as better by Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson should tell us and her something about the level of quality in Parliament today.
