Council objects to extension
PLANS for a Hungerford home extension are a step too far, town councillors have suggested.
The applicants want to build a rear two-storey extension and partially convert garage space into office space at 85 Priory Road.
One formal letter of objection has been registered expressing “concerns over the overbearing effect of the proposed extension in relation to the adjacent property, 87 Priory Road”.
At a recent, virtual meeting of Hungerford Town Council’s environment and planning committee, chairman Alistair Fyfe said: “It is a sizeable extension.”
Councillor Claire Winser said: “We usually look to approve of extensions and keep people in their homes.
“However, when I went to have a look, I thought it would be really overbearing.
“Only by going to see the property could I appreciate what it was going to look like.”
Town mayor Helen Simpson said: “I think all the houses in that row are doing extensions.
“While it’s important to encourage people to stay put, I think this is in such close proximity [to the neighbouring property] that it would be quite overbearing.
“I don’t think it would hurt to scale it back just a bit.”
The committee agreed to object, in its advisory capacity to West Berkshire Council planners, who will make the final decision.
Meanwhile, the application can be viewed in full, and commented on, by visiting the planning section of West Berkshire Council’s website and using the reference 21/00229/HOUSE.
