Don’t generalise about all men and women

-

THIS is in reply to your reader’s letter headlined ‘Like all women, I live in fear of men every day’ (Newbury Weekly News, March

18).

I’m a woman and I don’t live in fear of men – never have.

So why are you generalising all women just like you’re generalising all men?

I agree that there are a lot of men who see women as slaves, who use women, attack women and don’t think of us as equal to them, but there are also a lot more men who do not have this belief about women.

There are also women who see men as slaves, who use them, attack them.

Not all women are victims.

You have completely described women like we are meant to be slaves, that it’s okay for men to do what they want to do because we are women and we’re supposed to be afraid.

No, not all women are.

Most men prey on the fact that there are women out there who live in fear of them and your letter completely proves that you are in actual fact terrified of them, therefore creating a bigger ego.

What you should be writing about is why you’re not scared of men, why you don’t conform to society’s ideals of what women should look like and reminding yourself of all the sacrifices women had to make.

Your letter is a little extract of your life, not of all women.

I’ve experienced very similar to you but the only difference is it doesn’t make me fearful, it makes me more determined as a woman.

If you fear men, come to terms with what the triggers are for yourself.

Do not get so consumed by certain pressures women have to adhere by because we don’t have to, we have a choice.
