Smells like teen spirit

Resourcefu­l young musicians made the most of lockdowns producing tracks and streaming online

IN June, Newbury teenager Thomas Moores released his first album of electronic dance music Trip.P under his stage name Tomay. The 17-yearold drummer was studying A-levels at St Bart’s School, balancing homework with the production of this album in his bedroom during lockdown. Earlier in the year, he released an EP and single to experiment and find out what genre suited his production style best. In these earlier tracks, he wrote and sang about current affairs such as Covid-19. After gaining feedback from friends, Thomas decided EDM was the way forward. and in

IN January we reported on Newbury’s 13-year-old singer songwriter Olivia McBeth, who struck a sweet spot on social media with 25,000 followers and rising with three songs on all the streaming platforms including Spotify, iTunes, Amazon, the first two at Studio 9, but due to lockdown, Olivia’s only option was to record the third at home, using a microphone and laptop in her bedroom. https://bit.ly/3vHRMRh

POPULAR young Newbury band The Station were rocking high hopes for 2021. Shoppers will have heard some unusual buskers over previous tricky months as guitarist/singers Dylan and Louie Morris, with bass player Josh Hensby, thrashed out their particular brand of exciting rock and roll whenever possible on the streets of Newbury – in the absence of any gigs over the lockdown periods.

The Park House sixth formers have been together since they were 12 years old and write much of their own material, alongside some classic covers given their own unusual spin. Their sound is a blend of jangly rock and roll, strong melodies and quirky lyrics, and is very appealing.

They also launched their own online record label (Ragged Records) and released two very popular self-penned singles I Say Hello and Smile. What Do You Want This Christmas? was released for the festive season. All are available on most streaming platforms. https://bit.ly/3vKW4Hl
