A Gold Award at the end of Iris’ rainbow

-

A THATCHAM Rainbow Guide has reached the pot of gold at the end of her personal rainbow.

Iris Collins has gained her Gold Award, the highest that can be achieved, with 5th Kennet Vale Rainbows.

Rainbow Guides are the youngest section in Girlguiding and work for badges, just like the Brownies, Guides and Rangers.

There are three challenges that complete the award and Iris presented hers at a virtual meeting last Monday.

One of the challenges was to share highlights of her time in Rainbows and Iris painted a large rainbow with things she enjoyed in her journey, including taking her promise near the beginning of the rainbow and heading for the pot of gold at the end.

5th Kennet Vale said they were heartened to see that some of the activities Iris included had been from the last year, and that lockdown had not stood in the way of progress or fun.

Iris’ father Dale was charged with presenting the certificate and badges at the event.

He said: “Iris has had a lovely time this evening.

“It was great to see her face when I gave her the badges and certificate, as she’s been saying I probably won’t be able to get my gold badge because of lockdown, so she was thoroughly surprised.”

Iris said her favourite things about Rainbows were “making new friends, doing crafts, the canal walk, mum and daughter camp and grass sledging”.

Rainbow leader Ann Dibble said: “Iris has entered into every activity with enthusiasm and commitment.

“She thoroughly deserves this award. We love that Iris is the name of the Greek goddess of the rainbow.”
