Counting the days at The White Hart Inn

THE White Hart Inn is now full speed ahead, preparing for the reopening on Monday, April 12. The first big job was taking down the Christmas decorations.

“We kept the decorations up because we were thinking of reopening with a Christmas party,” said owner Stella Coulthurst.

“But then the freshly cut grass, the blooming garden and the sunshine convinced us that the tinsel and baubles should go back to the loft.”

The Hamstead Marshall pub will soon be opening its garden to drinkers and diners.

“We can’t wait to welcome our customers again; we have a new head chef, and he has created a fabulous new menu, so it’s a very exciting time.”

The food at The White Hart is contemporary and is cooked from scratch using the best ingredients, locally sourced where possible. As well as fabulous food, the on-site micro-brewery produces an exclusive range of real ales. Brewing has now started ahead of April 12, when The White Hart will open for celebratory drinks.

The Saviour range includes “Boozer”, a session ale, perfect with lunch, which will be first back on the pumps.

For devotees, “Saviour Gold”, the strong, golden ale – ideal for an afternoon in a sunny beer garden – will soon be back.

The White Hart Inn boasts nine charming guest rooms and with many people planning holidays in the UK, Stella sees a busy summer ahead.

“Most of our rooms are accessed directly from the garden, so our guests can step straight into the fresh Berkshire air.”

She added: “It’s amazing to be so close to Newbury and Hungerford while being surrounded by glorious rolling countryside.”

Being within easy reach of lots of local attractions, it’s the perfect spot for a staycation.

On reopening day, they will open the garden for celebratory drinks. As Stella puts it: “We have all earned it, so come and join us.” From mid-April to mid-May, The White Hart will then be open at weekends from noon each day, serving drinks and food in the garden.

“And, at last! From mid-May we will be open every day, serving inside and out,” said Stella. Readers of the Newbury Weekly News get a free drink when they eat at The White Hart during April and May.
