Oxbridge offers for five from St Bart’s

-

FIVE pupils from St Bartholomew’s School, Newbury, have been offered a place to study at either Cambridge or Oxford University.

Sophie Barrett, Harry Clarksdon, Siena Hickmore, Matthew Morecroft and Tobias Allen have all succeeded in the rigorous entry process.

In what has been a difficult year, tests and interviews for college or university choices for pupils have taken place entirely online.

Sophie (Mathematics), Harry (Medicine), Siena (History) and Matthew (Biology) have been offered places at Oxford, while Tobias (Engineering) has a place at Cambridge.

Deputy head of sixth form Alison Lane said: “We are very proud of all these students.

“In what has been an exceptionally challenging year it is heartening to have good news like this.

“We offer them specialised support, but mostly these offers are down to the hard work and attitude of the students and we look forward to hearing about their future successes.

“As in previous years we will be holding a virtual Early Entrants’ Evening on Wednesday, April 28, from 6pm to 8pm for Year 11 and Year 12 students from any school who is considering an application to Oxbridge or for medicine.

“Current offer-holders and others already studying medicine and at Oxbridge, will be available to answer questions about the process and their experiences in making a successful application.”

The majority of Year 13 students at St Bart’s have been applying to a range of universities and higher education courses through the UCAS system for entry later this year.

More than 200 applications for university have been made by students, while others are planning for gap years and have been successful in obtaining apprenticeships, including in accountancy and engineering.
