Holly’s ready to teach

-

PANGBOURNE College has recently welcomed Great Britain and England Hockey Elite Development Squad player Holly Hunt to its coaching team.

Hunt officially joined the coaching team in January, however due to lockdown she has had to wait until the return to school to commence her coaching programme.

Her focus will be on coaching girls hockey across all ages in the school.

She explained: “It’s been fantastic to finally get out on to the astro pitch with the students. I’ve been really impressed with their attitude, especially after such a long period away.

“They are eager to get stuck back into the game and that’s fantastic to see.

“Pangbourne certainly has some talented young players and I look forward to harnessing their passion for the sport.”

Director of sport Sam Hewick said: “We’re delighted to have someone of Holly’s calibre joining the coaching team.

“Her wealth of experience playing top-level hockey will be a huge asset to Pangbourne students, enabling them to develop their game further.

“Alongside this, she sets a brilliant example to all students about attitude and effort, which for me are hugely important characteristics.”

Hunt’s career highlight came in China 2019 when she won her first cap with Great Britain in a Pro League match.

She has aspirations to play for the senior squad full-time and to go to the Olympics and play in the World Cup.

She also plays club hockey in the Women’s England Hockey League Premier Division for Hampstead & Westminster.

She said: “I will always give 100-per-cent effort and commitment to my game and I know that this approach will be taken by the girls I coach here at Pangbourne.”

She explained that academics are also very important and that students can perform highly in both if the right attitude and discipline is applied, something intrinsic in her approach to coaching.
