Store sends plastic-free message

-

A THATCHAM sustainable store celebrated Plastic Free July as it continues to promote more ethical living in the area.

Set up in September 2018 by Jenny and Tom Kirby, Thatcham Refillable sells ethical, vegan and sustainable refillable household cleaning and body care products, as well as eco household products.

As part of Plastic Free July, the company took 10 per cent off all orders.

Mrs Kirby said: “Plastic Free July has been so important to get people to think about how much plastic they are using and where they can reduce it, especially as Covid has made it harder to be plastic free.

“It has been a chance to send our message out to a wider audience and make people more aware of how they can reduce their plastic usage.

“Even just one small change makes a difference.”

The couple set up Thatcham

Refillable after being inspired by a community-based shop in Wantage and now have a loyal customer base of both domestic and commercial customers.

Since the pandemic, the pair had to change their format to a delivery service, but are now taking on a few pre-arranged doorstep appointments.

The most popular products tend to be their core refills, which include washing-up liq

uid, fabric softener and liquid soap.

The company delivers to locations within a 12-mile radius of Thatcham every Friday and also has collection points in Thatcham, Newbury, Hungerford, Kingsclere and Burghfield Common.

The couple are part of the Sustainable Living Market founding team that aims to be back in Thatcham from September.
