Generate UK supports step into industry for UCN student

-

FOR many years Newbury College and University Centre Newbury (UCN) have been collaborating with local organisations and employers to ensure students gain the skills needed to kick-start their careers.

Generate UK, a digital marketing agency based in Thatcham, has formed a very successful partnership with the college and UCN, supporting their graphic design and creative media programmes.

The partnership has offered different opportunities to students by reviewing CVs, offering advice on portfolios, supporting design briefs and work experience.

For Abigail Hull, an HND graphic design student, the relationship has proven to be invaluable for her creative career.

Abigail has gained valuable work experience, professional practice and the opportunity to work on different design briefs throughout her course with Generate UK’s guidance.

The local company has been so impressed with Abigail’s work ethic and creative flare that it has offered her a fulltime role as a junior designer upon completing her course later this month.

Generate UK HR director Cassandra Capel said: “It has been a real joy working with a small cohort of Newbury College and UCN students this year and seeing them achieve some of their goals in a workplace environment.

“We are pleased that we have been able to support the students, through the Generate UK Marketing Academy, by providing them with the opportunities that we originally set out to achieve despite such a difficult year.

“We are incredibly excited to welcome UCN student Abby to the Generate UK team in a full-time role as a junior designer.

“We know that she will be a fantastic addition to the organisation and feel this is a real measure of success for the initiative.”

Victoria Burden, UCN programme leader Higher Nationals in graphic design, added: “UCN promotes, careers not courses, working with

local companies and building relationships is vital in ensuring students gain real life work experiences, whether it’s working on a live brief, liaising and communicating with clients, client presentations or actual work experience placements.

“The experience and knowledge gained is invaluable and helps to develop students confidence, communication skills as well as their interpretations of design briefs and creative ideas.”

University Centre Newbury has a limited number of spaces on its HNC and HND graphic design courses starting in September.
