Unlucky Taylor’s a hit on the internet

-

THATCHAM player Matt Taylor became a internet sensation on Saturday as Thatcham suffered an incredible four-wicket defeat at the hands of Wokingham in Division 2B of the Thames Valley League.

Thatcham were shot out for just 35, but then had Wokingham reeling at 6-6 before the home side rallied to seal an incident-packed victory.

But it was Taylor who, unfortunately, stole the show.

He came in with Thatcham in all sorts of trouble at 30-7, but was run out without facing a ball.

Having been called through for a single, Taylor took three steps before falling over face down the middle of the wicket.

Unfortunately for Taylor, this was caught on camera and has since been plastered round the internet.

This moment summed up the afternoon with the bat for Thatcham, as Jamie Young (10) was the only person to get into double figures.

With little chance of victory, Thatcham went out to restore some pride, and that they did, courtesy of young Odhinn Moore.

He took a wicket with the second ball of the innings, trapping the Wokingham opener leg before.

Mike Green went one better and took a wicket with his first ball, before bagging a second, leaving Wokingham 5-3.

Moore then picked up his second wicket with “the best ball I’ve ever bowled” and two more wickets in the next over from Green saw Wokingham slump to 6-6.

Thatcham now had a chance of pulling off a miracle victory, but Jack Fisher hit a battling 21no and see Wokingham over the line.

Thatcham 2nd picked up an excellent five-wicket win against Royal Ascot 2nd in Division 5B.

Ascot totalled 183-8 from their allotted overs, but Benny Copeman (50), Paul Hemming (36) and Steve Bartholomew (38)steered Thatcham home at 184-5.

Falkland’s hopes of closing the gap on the Division 1 leaders were dashed as their game at second-placed Gerrards Cross was rained off.

But Falkland 2nd crashed to a 165-run defeat at the hands of Wargrave 2nd in Division 4B.

George Hawkins took 4-63 off 11.3 overs and Mike Robinson claimed 3-18, but Wargrave still piled up an imposing244-9.

Only Saurabh Bhandari (25no) and Hawkins (23) offered any resistance as Falkland were dismissed for 79.
