Kennet bring home the medals

While Kuijten brothers run well at Leatherhea­d event

TEAM Kennet athletes thrived at the Berkshire Track and Field Championsh­ips held at Eton last month, claiming some 22 medals and providing 10 County Champions over the two days.

Under-13 athlete Elliott Murphy took his first county title in the 1000m in a great race, just missing out on the club record as he clocked a fast 3.08.7.

The day after, he claimed a new club record in the 600m, although he was pipped on the line for fourth place with a time of 1.43.67.

In the same age group, but in the girls’ category, Eliska Simpson is fast learning the discus as she has moved up to 14th in the UK rankings after taking the Berkshire title.

She threw a distance of 18.43m and claimed a handful of medals over the weekend as she finished second in the shot put and third in the javelin.

Amber Stiles grabbed a county title in the high jump, clearing 1.25m, and she also finished second in the 1000m race with a time of 3.31.95.

Under-15 athlete Claire McGonnell claimed the javelin title with a throw of 27.87m.

She added further success in the 300m as she claimed bronze with a time of 46.7, before finishing seventh in the

100m.

Meanwhile, Seb Simpson claimed two county titles with success in the discus and the hammer and he also finished third in the shot put.

Jo Hoaen also took part in the discus as she came fourth with a throw of 21.88m.

Charlotte Absolom won the Under-17 triple jump and Oliver Ford threw 39.93m to win the discus, while Tom Wells came third to claim bronze.

Ford also took second in the shot, while bronze medals came from Oliver Humphrey in the 100m hurdles and Gabriel Warley in the high jump, with Matthew Jones taking fourth.

The under-20 age group saw Phoebe Hoaen claim her first title as she won the javelin with a throw of 35.23.

Silver medals came from Oliver Bazin in the long jump (5.51), Harry Booker in the discus (36.29) and Oliver Gregory in the shot (11.01).

Booker just missed out in the shot, taking fourth place with a distance of 10.67m.

The only club senior athlete taking part was Luke Angell as he took the senior title in the javelin, with a throw of 57.52m. n The Kuijten brothers travelled to Leatherhea­d to take part in the MHS Go Tri event.

In the Tri Start boy race, Josh came in first place while older brother Reuben took part in the Tri Star 1 age group.

He finished in sixth position, but Ethan won his event in the Tri Star 2 group.

At Dorney Lakes, it was the girls that took part in the Barnes Eton Dorney Kids Triathlon.

Kirsten Fraser was the best placed club athlete in the Tri Star 3 age group, coming home in sixth place with a time of 26.02.

Emma Davies came home in 26th place in a time of 33.52, while Anna Hall took part in the Tri Star 2 age group and finished 16th (27.33).
