Why not train to teach in a school local to you in West Berkshire?

If you have a passion for education and a desire to make a positive impact on young people’s lives, then training to teach could be the next career move for you!

-

What’s involved?

This school led postgraduate programme leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with the Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) available as an option.

There are a range of full, and part time, primary and secondary subjects available.

You need a degree, GCSEs (or equivalent) (Level 4 / Grade C or above) Maths and English and a Science GCSE for primary training.

You are based in a school within West Berkshire right from the start, supported by a trained and experienced mentor and attending core training sessions delivered by experienced senior leaders.

How long is the programme?

The training takes one academic year to complete – starting in September 2024 and completing in the summer of 2025. Part time courses start at the same time but complete in December 2025.

Is there funding available?

Subject to your eligibility, some secondary subjects carry substantial bursaries or scholarships, and teacher training courses are eligible for tuition fee loans and student finance.

Who delivers the training?

The OTT SCITT is a wellestablished and highly regarded teacher training provider, running courses across Berkshire, Oxford and Wiltshire. As an Ofsted Outstanding (2023) provider in every aspect, training with them will guarantee you a high-quality training experience, ensuring you are well-prepared for that first step into your first teaching role.

Trainees can go on to develop highly successful careers at The Downs, our federated schools, St Bartholomew’s School, Kennet School, and other primary and secondary schools in West Berkshire and beyond.

So what next?

Whether you are driven to share your passion for your subject, looking to change your career, wanting to develop your role in a school, or are graduating in the summer, there’ll be a programme that is just right for you.

Remember! You will make a difference – you’ll go home every day knowing that you have played a part in inspiring a young person to achieve the best possible outcomes for their future and you can be sure that no two days are ever the same!
