Awards keep coming for butcher
Berkshire Butcher of the Year the latest accolade for 14-year-old Broadway business
Extra recognition was given for our long-standing ethos of working with local farmers and artisan producers and our attention to detail for over 14 years
A BUTCHER in Thatcham has won another award, proving that it is a cut above the rest.
Cook & Butcher in the Broadway won Butcher of the Year in Berkshire at the London and South East England Prestige Awards.
And this isn’t the business’ first accolade.
It won the Covid Heroes award from Thatcham Town Council in 2021.
The 14-year-old business also won Butcher of the Year at the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Food and Drink Awards in 2017.
And the High Street Hero at the Berkshire and Buckinghamshire Food and Drink Awards in 2016.
It also swept up awards at the Royal County of Berkshire Show in the same year, winning Best Local Exhibitor, Most Attractive Stand and Best in Food Fayre.
This was the first time in the history of the showground that anyone has scooped first place in all three of these award categories.
It was also in the top three of these categories in 2017.
Owner Pete Congerton runs the business with his wife Laura.
He said: “The latest award is gratefully received and means a lot to us in an ever evolving climate.
“And it shows recognition to the team at Cook & Butcher for their continued passion and dedication to maintaining the best craftsmanship in our field.
“Extra recognition was given for our long-standing ethos of working with local farmers and artisan producers and our attention to detail for over 14 years.”
He added: “Retail is facing extremely challenging times with
such high increased running costs and can often get bogged down with the day to day of running a busy business so this award was a great boost to our staff.
“We are very proud to be an independent family-run business and things like this make all the difference to us.”
