Kendal marches to medal triumph

JASON Kendal won Division 1 of the men’s April medal at West Berkshire Golf Club with gross 77, net 75, while Richard Campbell shot 78, net 76 to claim second place.

Close behind was Christy Whelehan in third place with gross 81, net 78, who beat Andrew Grayson, gross 87, on countback.

Kevin Holloway gross 88, net 75, won Division 2 from Kirk Willmoth gross 93, net 76, while Patrick Whelehan, gross 89, also scored net 76 with the placing in that order on countback.

Mitchell Willmoth went one better than brother Kirk and won Division 3 with gross 91 that yielded net 69, the best net score of the day.

Bob Graham was second on gross 98, net 76, and Colin Howe third with gross 98, net 77.

Jane Brackenbur­y won the ladies’ April medal, scoring gross 94, net 83, to beat Gale

McAuley, gross 113, on countback.

Tina Mulford, with gross 106, net 85, took third place.

Phil Armstrong won the men’s Saturday stableford with 39 points.

Greg Collins was second with 35, beating Lee Nicholson on countback, while Colin Harrison won the midweek stableford with 30 points.

There followed a tie on 28 with Geoff Pudner beating Sean Sheils on countback to take second place.

Countback was also required to separate a tie on 29 points when Catherine Barnard beat Georgie Seaman in the ladies’ midweek stableford.

Tina Mulford was two points behind in third place.

The first of 16 weekly ninehole qualifying competitio­ns for a place in the Liddiard Cup final was played on Wednesday and won by Ian Lewin with 20 points.

He was the only person to reach the 19 points required to qualify with Darren Boulton one point short in second place and Sean Sheills a point further back third.

The men’s Saturday team held their first fixture of the year when they entertaine­d Sandford Springs and started the season in fine style with a 42 victory.
