Time for tag champion

-

A FORMER pro wrestler is coming to Thatcham.

Former multiple world tag team champion and two-time champion of the world famous TNA Wrestling X-Division Doug Williams will be keeping order at a match.

With him will be current WWE Smackdown general manager Nick Aldis.

Mr Williams will be on hand to maintain order at the show at Kennet School on Saturday.

He will serve as the guest time keeper of the main event, pitting WWE NXT star ‘The English Lion’ Eddie Ryan and fan favourite Saime Sahin against Tiger Ali and British Kingdom Pro heavyweight champion Chris Bronson.

Mr Williams said: “I’ve seen what happens when these guys get in the ring.

“They’re some of the top wrestlers in the country, but things can get a little out of hand.

“I’ll be there to make sure we keep to the allotted time limit, but also to make sure Thatcham gets a good clean match.

“Believe me, I won’t be taking any nonsense.”

The former wrestler has held championships in Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling NOAH, New Japan Pro-Wrestling, TNA/IMPACT and the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA).

He held the NWA World Tag Team Championships with

Harry Smith as The Commonwealth Connection in 2022.

Professional wrestler Chris Bronson recently wrestled as part of Gut Check, a contest designed to find top talent for big US promotion TNA Wrestling – an organisation Mr Williams dominated as part of ‘Fortune’, a faction led by Ric Flair.

He said: “Everyone knows and respects Williams for what he’s done for professional wrestling in this country and all over the world.

“I grew up watching him on TV as part of British Invasion and Fortune.”

He added: “If he [Williams] wants to sit ringside to see me and Tiger Ali destroy our opponents, that’s fine.

“But if he even thinks about getting involved in my match, he can expect ‘The Shire’s Kiss’ [Bronson’s traditional finishing move], after which he’ll have no idea what day of the week it is, let alone what time.”

The show will also feature a debut for the ‘Sly Tactician’ Kian Fox as he takes on highflying Mega Pegasus.

Tickets can be bought online at https://shorturl.at/ghijw and are £11 for adults, £9 for children and £35 for a family of four.

The event will start at Kennet School in Stoney Lane at 6pm with doors opening at 5.30pm.
