HUNGERFORD manager Bobby Wilkinson has described his side’s recent form as “absolutely unbelievable”.

The statistics don’t lie. Hungerford have won nine of their last 11 league games, scoring 25 times and conceding just five goals.

They have now lost just once in their last 16 league games – a 3-0 defeat to St Neots Town on March 1. On Saturday Hungerford came from behind to beat Weymouth 2-1 – with goals from Stefan Brown and Harry Goodger – a win that lifted them to sixth place in the table. Bobby Wilkinson’s side looked in danger of surrendering their unbeaten record as they fell behind midway through the first half. Despite Hungerford having the better of the opening exchanges, Weymouth took the lead when Stuart Yetton lobbed the ball over the head of Paul Strudley.

However, Hungerford levelled on 71 minutes when Brown headed home a James Clark corner.

Just nine minutes later, the comeback was complete as substitute Goodger fired the all high into the roof of the net.

They followed that with a 2-0 win away at Hitchin Town on Monday night, with Matt Day and Brown getting on the scoresheet.

Hitchin were reduced to 10 men after only 20 minutes when Garry Summers fouled Mark Hughes way off the ball and was sent off. Hungerford took the lead on the half-hour mark when Matt Day came up for a Nick Stanley corner and headed the ball in off the post. They doubled their lead after 65 minutes when a long ball sent Brown clear on the left, where he controlled the ball before slotting it past Tahj Bell from a narrow angle. Wilkinson said: “What is happening at this football club is absolutely unbelievable.

“I knew we had the chance to have a great season, but even I didn’t expect us to go on the run that we have done.

“Confidence is sky high at the moment, but I’m not getting too carried away.

“We have got Poole next, which is a huge game. I want people to come down and watch us. I want people to go out of their houses for just one night a week and come and cheer the boys on.”
