Rocky’s road to the final showdown

- BOXING

ROCKY Golby is through to the final of the Home Counties championship after another impressive win at the weekend. Thames Valley ABC ace Golby scored a unanimous points win over Sam Voax of Hoddelston ABC in the semi-finals of the U46 kg Class B at Carterton on Sunday .

And that now sees him through to the final against Banbury’s Jake De Rechter on Saturday.

Golby started well against Voax, using his left hand lead to good effect to give his opponent a nose bleed. Voak didn’t make the most of his height advantage and Golby forced him back throughout the round. Voax hit back in the second round, but Golby used his footwork and movement to frustrate his rival and counter punched.

In the third round Golby came out strongly again with his left and right combinations dominating throughout the round, but was unable to pin Sam on the ropes.

But he got the decision he deserved with a unanimous points win.

Paddy Ward of Thames Valley ABC was also in action at Carterton, taking on B Entermin of Banbury in his first skills bout.

Both boxers used their skills throug out the contest and they both learnt from using their lead hand jab.

The referee congratulated both boys on a great first skills bout.

Thames Valley’s Jack Pembroke travelled to Leamington Spa for a skills bout against L Stone of Banbury ABC.

Pembroke boxed well using his southpaw lead to catch his opponent on a few occasions.

Both boys exchanged combinations but Jack was the stronger boxer of the two and he will now go to box in a competitive bout.

The club also travelled to Harrow where Archie Williams (76kg) had his first bout against Tyler Adams of Harrow.

Both boxers exchanged heavy combinations in the first round, but Archie was the more accurate. Adams came out strongly in the second round, but Williams weathered the storm and forced Tyler back with straight left and right combination shots.

In the third round Tyler rushed in with a flurry of punches, but Williams kept his cool to win 4-1 on a split decision.

This will give him great confidence going into his next bout.
