Dance group looks to dazzle with Première

» Dancing Feet Academy launches desperate fundraising in bid to put on the show.

DANCING Feet Academy, is gearing up to dazzle the community with its 12th show, Première, despite facing the daunting challenge of tripled theatre costs.

The group has launched a desperate fundraising bid to put on the show at the Queen’s Theatre in July with a series of fun family events as well as asking businesses to support more than 100 young dancers’ dreams of performing on a big stage in a real theatre. It has also set up a GoFundMe page with a target of £10,000.

Against these spiralling theatre costs, Dancing Feet Academy of Dance, based in Braunton, is hoping to take over the Queen’s Theatre stage once again for its biannual show. Première, billed as the school’s most ambitious show yet, will open for four performances on Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27.

Première, an extravaganza of dance, will see more than 250 children and adult dancers taking to the stage this July. It marks Dancing Feet’s 29th year.

The academy’s youngest dancers have their own mini standalone show called Première Rising Stars exclusively for the pre-primary, primary and grade one students – this takes place on Friday, July 26, at 2pm. For many of these children it will be the first time they perform on stage.

Taking inspiration from stage and screen, Première’s main show promises to deliver show-stopping, toe-tapping numbers from the start to finish. With a ‘Moulin Rouge’ inspired opening, jazz numbers, energetic tap routines, elegant and technical ballet pieces, sassy commercial numbers and songs from movie musicals.

Nadine Morrish, principal of Dancing Feet Academy, said: “We are thrilled to be celebrating our 29th year as one of the leading dance schools in the South West, and what better way than with our most exciting show yet! Our Dancing Feet Academy family has grown so much in just the last year and we are delighted to be able to give our students (young and old) the opportunity to dance on a stage like the Queen’s. There really is nothing like it – the curtain opening, the buzz of performing, and, of course the applause.

“Staging Première at the Queen’s Theatre has its challenges as theatre hire costs have tripled in the last 12 months. We will be undertaking some serious fundraising in the coming months and hope the community will support us as we head towards the show. We are also looking for financial support from local businesses, if anyone would like to get involved, sponsor or donate, do get in touch. You can also donate directly to our GoFundMe page. All contributions gratefully received! As they say, the show must go on.”

Tickets are on sale from May via The Queen’s Theatre box office on 01271 316523. To support the show, contact info@dancingfeetacademy.co.uk or to donate see www.gofundme.com/f/ dancing-feet-academy-hit-the-queenstheatre-stage.
