MOCHDRE will travel to Bangor this Saturday looking to maintain their lofty position in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division following last weekend’s comfortable win over neighbours Llandudno.

After bowling out Tudno for under 150, Gareth Goodson’s side were always going to have the batting power to rack up another impressive victory.

Mochdre won the toss and put the opposition in, a move which paid early dividends when Russ Boswell bowled opener Matthew Lambe with just five on the board.

The visitors recovered when Sam Rimmington (41) and Danial Evans (14) put on 62 for the second wicket.

However, both batsmen departed in quick succession and it needed another decent stand of 44 between skipper Jack Rimmington (31) and Tom Bleasdale (12) to steady the ship.

From being 113-3 at one stage, Llandudno’s innings then nosedived and they were all back in the hutch for just 147 off 35.2 overs.

The hosts found two bowling heroes in Boswell, who scooped 4-37, and Gareth Davies with 4-38.

Mochdre’s reply began well before Alex Davies was trapped lbw by Jack Rimmington for 21, leaving the home side 29-1.

Gareth Davies (34) and Joe Chaplin (22) formed a combination of 46 for the second wicket, then another 44 was added between Davies and Matthew Humphreys, leaving Mochdre well-placed at 119-3.

Humphreys were there at the end on 46 not out as the Black Marsh Fields men finished on 148-4 in 45.3 overs.

Mochdre took the points 13-2 and now visit next-bottom Bangor full of hope that they can add another win to their log.

Last weekend was a happy one for Mochdre as they also advanced to the last 16 of the Welsh Cup with victory over Connah’s Quay.

Hosts Quay won the toss and elected to bat, but came up against a wicket-hungry Mochdre attack which bowled them out for just 102 in 27 overs.

Veteran Gareth Davies maintained his fine form with the ball, picking up 4-35 off five overs, his victims including the dangerous David Fox, who was caught behind for 33.

Russ Boswell produced fantastic figures of 2-9 off eight overs, while Joe Chaplin snared 2-27 and there were two run outs.

Mochdre hit back with a winning 103-5 from 29.1 overs, opener Alex Davies top-scoring with 32, wicketkeeper James French adding 21, while Fox snapped up 2-8 for the hosts.

Llandudno will attempt to make the final 16 this Sunday when they take on Llay Welfare at The Oval.

Mochdre and Llandudno’s second teams continue to struggle badly in Division Two where they occupy the bottom two places.

Llandudno were thrashed 10-0 by Halkyn at The Oval.

The visitors posted 202-6 off 38 overs, Graeme Settle 57 not out and Matthew Jones claiming 2-54 for Tudno.

In response, Llan could only manage 101 all out, Jordan Kane striking 38, Alex Owen 34 and Martin Bean 21, John Gaskell 3-30 for the travellers.

Mochdre seconds visited Hawarden Park seconds, who amassed 282-6 off 45 overs, John Parry best for the away side with 3-64.

Jonathan Woodgate cracked a fine 66 not out, but Mochdre were dismissed for 176, so narrowly failed to grab a point.

Mike Humphreys added 42 and Scott Roberts 41, but it ended 10-0 to Hawarden.
