Bay hammer Bucks in cup tie massacre

-

COLWYN Bay’s cricketers stormed into the last 16 of the Welsh Cup with a 268-run annihilation of Buckley last Sunday.

Winning the toss and deciding to bat, Bay encountered early trouble when Adam Shillcock and Zack Gidlow both departed quickly to leave the visitors 20-2.

However, Adam Campion (62) and George Johansen turned the tide with a stand of 86 for the third wicket.

Johansen and skipper Sion Morris then went on to concoct a mammoth fourthwicket partnership of 187.

Off just 83 balls, Johansen made 102, including 15 fours and a six, while Morris finished 100 not out exactly from 75 deliveries, slamming five boundaries and six maximums. Bay posted a huge 318-5 off 40 overs. North Wales League Division One side Buckley were blown away by the Colwyn attack, no batsman managing doublefigures as the hosts were rolled over for a mere 50 in just 16.5 overs, extras top-scoring with 13.

Campion nabbed 4-24 and Ryan Holtby 3-19 for the dominant visitors.

It was also business as usual for the Bay in Liverpool Competition Division One, where they went a massive 48 points clear at the pinnacle with a win at Sefton Park.

Still undefeated this term after nine matches, Colwyn’s luck with the toss continued as captain Morris called the coin correctly and opted for first knock.

Bay reached 191-8 declared off 45.1 overs, Campion topping the chart with 58 and Johansen adding 46.

However, the visiting bowlers performed well enough to dismiss the Liverpool side for 165, securing a 24-7 points split.

Samad Fallah continued his fine form with 4-58, taking him to 32 wickets in seven league matches at an average of just 7.72, while spinner Paul Jenkins collected 4-64.

Colwyn Bay remain next-bottom in 2nd XI Division One after losing to Rainhill.

The Liverpool side set 194 all out, Jamie Moorehouse 5-57 and James Jones 3-37.

Despite 60 from Dave Wallace, Bay were toppled for only 100 in response.
