Rivals left behind as Min-y-Don increase their lead at the top

MIN-Y-DON stretched their lead at the North Wales Coast Bowling League Division A summit to 10 points after a narrow 7-5 success at Beaumaris A last Saturday.

The Old Colwyn side took advantage of main title rivals Conwy A and Rhos Park A not playing due to both teams having players competing in the British Senior Merit by establishi­ng clear daylight in top spot.

It finished 5-5 in games at Beaumaris, but Min-y-Don claimed the bonus after heading the aggregates by just four chalks at 173-169.

The visitors owed much to Simon Livings for a superb 21-8 card, while Gareth W Hughes (21-12) and Craig Richardson (21-13) also played a big part.

Abergele went down 9-3 at Blaenau Ffestiniog despite an outstandin­g 21-9 triumph for Robin Waterhouse.

Other scores: Llanfairpw­ll 4 Bangor City 8; Denbigh A 5 St Asaph A 7.

Postponed: Llandudno A v Rhos Park A; Conwy A v Llanrwst A.

Rhos Park B have a seven-point lead at the Division B peak following a 10-2 caning of Mochdre Park A.

Gari Williams shone brightest for the hosts at 21-6 with Jim Smith close behind on 21-7, while J Alan Jones replied with a fine 21-8 result for the visitors.

Craig-y-Don whipped Caernarfon 10-2, Peter Mceneany the Llandudno side’s top block on 21-4.

Eirias Park hammered Conwy B 11-1, Aled Roberts leading the charge on 21-9. Conwy’s only winner returned the afternoon’s best card - Miriam Forder at 21-8.

Benllech 3 Colwyn Bay RBL 9; Dyserth 3 Fron Park 9.

Division C table-toppers Penrhyn New Hall A breezed to a 10-2 win over visitors Copperfiel­ds.

George Edward Maccarthy was best winner for the hosts on 21-9, Terry Power 21-10.

Deganwy’s Vardre A saw off Prestatyn Highbury 10-2, Ian Wilson impressing at 21-6 and Dave Holland also standing out with a 21-8 outcome.

Llysfaen went down 8-4 at Sunny Rhyl, Ernie Prosser the visitors’ finest on 21-13.

Other scores: Rhuddlan 10 Bala 2; Holyhead 9 Bethesda 3.

Old Colwyn still head the Division D standings in spite of an 8-4 loss at promotion-chasers Llanrwst B.

Paul Ware produced the top win of the day at 21-4 for OC, Llanrwst’s Ken Roberts recording a 21-5 triumph and Phyllis Mclean 21-6.

Mochdre Park B edged a 7-5 verdict over Penrhyn New Hall B, Alun Jones 21-8 for the home side and Mark Frazer 21-5 for the visitors, who were beaten by just five on the aggregates.
