Llandudno aim to end run of defeats

-

LLANDUDNO will hope to halt a barren run of three consecutive defeats in the North Wales Cricket League Premier Division when they travel to Connah’s Quay this Saturday (1pm).

Tudno’s dip in form continued last weekend when they went down at home to a Pwllheli side which had lost four on the bounce.

Despite two early breakthroughs which reduced the visitors to 12-2, and later having the Llŷn team at 93-5, Pwll eventually set a decent total of 214 all out.

Nadeem Rehman scored highest for the travellers with 69, while overseas player Zandre Swartz added 39 and skipper Michael Hughes 35.

Tudno’s wickets were shared around, Sam Rimmington the most productive bowler with 3-41, Tom Thornton collecting 2-40 and captain Jack Rimmington 2-48.

The hosts’ response began badly when Tom Bleasdale went with eight on the board.

Llandudno then hit back with Danial Evans and Sam Rimmington putting on 74 for the second wicket.

Rimmington departed for 41, but Evans went on to notch up his fifth league half-century of the season, reaching 51 before being caught and bowled after a 50 stand with Rhydian Morgan.

Teenager Evans now has more than 600 league runs for the campaign.

The Oval men progressed to 164-3 and seemed well set for victory, but after Morgan fell lbw for 33, calamity struck and they ended up 185 all out.

Youngster Morgan MurrayWilliams snapped up 4-41 and Rehman grabbed 3-32 as Pwllheli celebrated an unexpected 12-3 triumph.

A poor batting display ended up costing Abergele dear in their Division Two encounter with visitors Hawarden Park seconds.

Gele were bowled out for just 79, despite resistance by last pair Owen Lynam (24) and Vibin Nair (16 no).

Hawarden were indebted to David Hughes (39 no) for seeing them to 80-6 and a 7-3 verdict.

In Division Four, Abergele seconds edged a low-scoring affair at Anglesey Aluminium.

Gele were dismissed for just 61, but then rolled over the Holyhead hosts for 50 to seal a 6-4 outcome.
