RO­TARY: Ro­tar­ian Alan Mor­gan was for­mally in­stalled as the Club’s Vice Pres­i­dent by Pres­i­dent John Barker. The meet­ing con­tin­ued with a talk by Gor­don Nu­gent. He told the Club that he had at­tended Durham Univer­sity which was housed in New­cas­tle-up­onTyne be­tween a pub and a cin­ema. He spoke about Met­als and how for cen­turies they have been used as pro­tec­tion, for tool­ing and as a valu­able com­mod­ity from Ro­man coins to present gold bul­lion. Met­als are used in the con­struc­tion in­dus­try. He spoke about the prop­er­ties of me­tal and the stresses and strains to which it is put. Gor­don was thanked for his talk by Ro­tar­ian Harry Stan­ley who hoped he would give the same in­struc­tive talk to the Ladies Cir­cle.
