Parkes rewarded for top season
OLD Colwyn FC star Jake Parkes received a memento of a season to remember recently.
Parkes was presented with his Vale of Clwyd and Conwy League Premier Division Player of the Year trophy by proud OC manager Ray Carlisle.
Striker Parkes was top-scorer for the team last term.
Old Colwyn begin their latest league season next month and their form in friendlies this summer will have given them plenty of optimism for the campaign ahead.
In their latest outing they beat local Sunday League side Cais 9-1.
The outstanding Joel Massam struck five times in the first halfhour, proving why he was also a Player of the Year award-winner in his first season with the Glan-y-Don club.
Sadly, work commitments away from the area restrict Massam’s availability to playing every fourth Saturday for the team during the campaign.
Parkes scored another two against Cais, and there was one apiece for captain Kyle Johnson, via one of his trademark free kicks, and Mike Loughlan.
After a 35-year absence of a football team in Old Colwyn, they reformed for 2011/12 and reached the Presidents Cup Final at the first attempt.
They also won promotion to the Premier in their first season and continue to improve while also giving opportunities for young talent to play football in the community.
