LLANDUDNO Junction can expect a tough encounter when they entertain Llanrug United in a Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division One clash at the Arriva Ground this Saturday (2.30pm).

Llanrug finished fourth last season and began the new campaign in style with a 3-0 success at Gwalchmai last weekend.

Junction, who achieved a best-ever runners-up spot last term, kicked off the 2015/16 season with a 2-2 draw at home to Trearddur Bay United.

Martyn Jones and Olly Walters’ side led 2-0 at the break, but the division newcomers fought back hard to level matters in the second period.

The Railwaymen made the perfect start when a good delivery from a leftside corner saw Tom Williams time his run into the box perfectly to head home a thunderbolt after just four minutes.

Junction were a constant danger from set-pieces and it was no surprise when they took a 2-0 lead in the 41st minute.

This time a corner from the right was only partially cleared by keeper Mike Doutch and Jamie Jones reacted the quickest to stab home from close range.

Asa Thomas hit the post for the visitors just before the break, which arrived with a 2-0 scoreline.

After the restart Trearddur came out strongly and in the 50th minute Thomas capitalised on an underhit back-pass to round the keeper and make it 2-1.

The prolific Thomas was now proving a real danger and only two great stops from keeper Gwydion Owen denied him before the front-man, who once scored 112 goals in a single season for the Bay, chipped another effort inches wide.

In the 80th minute, the Anglesey side levelled through a Curt Williams penalty after Shaun Jenkins went down in the box.

Llanrwstwst United began the season with a 0-0 draw at Llanfairpwll.

The Anglesey hosts did not pick up a single point last term, which saw them suffer 26 straight defeats, but there were a different proposition on this occasion at Maes Eilian.

Both teams went close to scoring but goalkeepers came out on top.

Mochdre Sports earned a 2-2 draw at Halkyn United in Division Two.

Jordan Phillips netted twice for the visitors, first on 39 minutes and then with a penalty in added time to rescue a share of the points.

Penmaenmawr Phoenix found the going tough in their opening match at newly-promoted Llanllyfni.

Rob Daniels put the home side into a 21st-minute lead, but Peter Williams made it all-square just before the interval.

The second half belonged to ‘Llyfni, Cynan Davies edging them ahead on 47 minutes before adding a second after 83. Alan Mark sealed it with number four.
