THIS WEEK: TRISTARS CONWY JUNIOR TRIATHLON CLUB

-

WHEN was Tristars Conwy Junior Triathlon Club formed?

It began life as an official club on April 1, 2014 having been initially started by Conwy Council as a summer project in 2013.

The project went well and the council asked us to then start a club. WHAT are the aims of the club?

The aim of the club is to provide a fun environment for training and we also encourage participation in local events and races.

We hope to develop a sense of self esteem as well as learning how to train and being organised – triathlon is quite a complex sport. HOW many coaches does you have?

We have three Level 1 coaches, two of which are doing their Level 2 in October/November and five new coaches who all started their Level 1 coaching last month (September).

We also have a number of parents who are volunteer helpers to assist when we split the groups. WHAT age groups do you cater for?

We cater for ages eight to 16-yearolds. WHEN and where are the training sessions held?

Our training takes place mostly on a Thursday night.

There are two sessions, the first starting at 6pm for eight to 12-year- olds (or Tristart to Tristar 2) and the second session starting at 6.45pm for 13-years-old and above (or Tristar 3 and Youth).

Both sessions normally start in the pool area at Eirias Park Leisure Centre. This first session is for 45 minutes and is followed by a second which is outside and for cycling and run training on the sports track.

The younger group finishes at 7.30pm. The older group finishes at approximately 8.30pm. WHAT events does the club take part in?

TriStars Conwy is committed to providing race opportunities for our own athletes, competitors from other clubs and independent athletes.

This year we had two events arranged, a junior aquathlon and our TriStars Triathlon. We hope to add a third event in the autumn, probably a duathlon.

Other events are the Welsh TriStars Series for which some are selected to represent Wales in the Inter-Regional Championships, and the Sandman Triathlon at Newborough Beach, Anglesey.

Also some children participate in other triathlon events in England. DO you offer a taster session prior to membership?

Our club is always happy to see new faces. If you are not sure about triathlon then come and watch a training session at Eirias Park on a Thursday night.

If you want to take the next move and join in then we will happily let you train with us for two sessions free of charge. After this you will need to join the club which you can do easily by downloading our membership pack, completing the forms and then bringing them with you to the next session.

We have two ways to pay for membership, a one-off annual payment of £120 per annum, a monthly payment of £10 by standing order membership and £2.50 per session scheme. Every member receives a free club T-shirt. WANT to know more?
