Glory for girls football league

-

NEXT Tuesday members of North Wales Girls Football League will travel to Cardiff to be honoured at the prestigious FAW Community Awards presented by McDonald’s.

The ceremony will take place before the vital Wales v Andorra UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying match.

Thanks to their work in North Wales, the league has been crowned the 2015 FAW Grassroots Impact Award winner and will collect their prize in front of an esteemed crowd featuring Welsh football legends.

The North Wales Girls Football League formed a new committee this year and following this has grown from strength to strength.

Registrations have gone up by 50 per cent and the number of games played have doubled for each team involved as well an U10’s section being re-established after years without one.

All of this has been achieved through the committee working tirelessly as a team to achieve the common objective of providing girls in North Wales with the best possible footballing experience.

The strength and growth of the league can be attributed to the number of volunteers working to sustain their current structure.

This is evident from the success of Prestatyn winning various honours, including the Welsh Cup.

This last year has seen clubs from the Welsh Premier League show a true commitment to girls grassroots football by offering weekly sessions to girls of all abilities and entering many teams into the league structures. Flexible formats of the game have made structure more accessible for girls.

The FAW Community Awards, presented by McDonald’s, aim to recognise and celebrate those coaches, volunteers, clubs and leagues, across Wales who dedicate their time to grassroots football in their local community.

McDonald’s director of Welsh football Ryan Giggs said: “The FAW and McDonald’s Community Awards are a superb way of recognising those who put so much time into the grassroots game.

“I want to congratulate the North Wales Girls League on winning their award and they will hopefully be able to celebrate a UEFA Euro win for our national team alongside their award.”
