Holt is Bay’s top finisher at Treborth

-

SAM HOLT was the top finisher for Colwyn Bay Athletic Club when the Grand Prix Express North Wales Cross-Country League got underway on Saturday.

Holt finished fourth in the under-17 men’s race at the traditional league opener at Treborth Track in Bangor, where the recent warm weather had made it one of the driest courses in living memory.

Colwyn Bay AC face a challenge in the league this season, with some of the club’s members having joined new Llandudno-based club GOG triathlon, who are also in the competition.

The Llandudno club’s ranks include highly-acclaimed triathlete Rhian Roxburgh, who last month won the Abersoch Half Marathon and finished third in the senior women’s race at Treborth.

Rhiannon Kamink finished an impressive 10th to lead the Bay’s women’s team home, but they find themselves joint bottom of Division One following the first fixture, along with Menai Track and Field.

The men’s team, led home by the ever committed Richard Watson in 55th place, are fourth in Division Two, 33 points behind GOG in third place – with the two clubs looking set to enjoy a friendly rivalry during the course of the season.

Colwyn Bay will host the league’s second fixture, which will take place at St David’s College in Llandudno on Saturday, October 17.
