Anguish after Melanie’s tragic death on street

AMUM-OF-FOUR tragically died after collapsing on a street despite desperate attempts by two schoolboys to save her.

Melanie Jayne Hughes, 33, passed away at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd after a difficult decision was made to switch off her life support machine.

Melanie, of Llandudno, suffered a brain haemorrhage after she had popped out to get some dinner and was found collapsed on the town’s Trinity Avenue last Wednesday evening.

Ms Hughes’ family have now given their heartfelt thanks to the two teenagers who found and desperately tried to save her life.

“Ysgol Aberconwy pupil Byron Morris and Ysgol John Bright pupil Frazer Cresswell found my daughter, and instead of panicking they phoned for an ambulance and performed CPR on her,” said Regina Davies, Melanie’s mum.

“Another man came to protect her from onlookers and a woman came to hold her hand.

“These people, especially those two boys, will be imprinted on my heart forever.

“I’m so proud of them, and so must their parents be. Fraser even turned up with a bunch of flowers for us.”

Ex-Ysgol John Bright, Llandudno, pupil Melanie, who was a former army cadet, was described as a proud mum who adored her family and friends.

Her brother Tom, 30, said: “I’m very proud to say Melanie was an organ donor and her kidneys have been donated.

“She was a kind-hearted person and I’ll so miss being able to wind her up and have a laugh with her. When she smiled the whole room would light up.”

Regina says Melanie, who passed away last Friday, had a twin sister called Kimberly Sian, but she tragically died when she was just 17 months old.

“I lost Kimberley 30 years ago and had at last become reconciled to her death, but to now lose her sister too is just too much,” she said.

“But life goes on, and I’m determined to be strong for my family and Melanie’s children.

“I will miss her lovely smile and her sense of fun – she’ll be hugely missed by us all.”
