GROUP MOVES ON AFTER COUNCIL WINS COURT ORDER

RESIDENTS of Stapleford breathed a huge sigh of relief as travellers blamed for defecating in an alleyway moved on yesterday.

Human excrement had been left in the alleyway, between Matthews Court and Meredith Court, and people living nearby blamed the travellers.

Lauren Lacey, 27, of Long Eaton, visits her family regularly in Stapleford.

She said her 73-year-old grandma had been left worried by the travellers and was scared to go out shopping.

“They are not respecting the area. I know they will eventually get moved on but it’s disgusting to hear about. They have left it in a right mess.

“Where they have left human excrement comes right out on people’s properties.

“I have had to walk my grandma to the shops and take her as she is worried about leaving the house on her own.

“She has a neighbour who is 93 who is also very worried.”

Dave Bosworth, 38, of Perth Drive, who has lived in Stapleford for most of his life, said: “It is horrifying really.

“We haven’t been able to take the dog on the park where they are. It’s just not worth the hassle. They have dogs off the leads there.

“The whole toilet thing makes me feel a bit sick – it’s disgusting. Anyone shouldn’t have to live like that.

“I haven’t seen any threatening behaviour but it can be quite intimidating for some people in the area – especially elderly people.” Councillor for Stapleford North Richard Macrae confirmed yesterday that a court order had been obtained by Broxtowe Borough Council and the travellers had left the site yesterday afternoon. He said: “Credit where it’s due, they didn’t leave it in that much of a state. There was no trouble when they left. They had bagged up their rubbish and there was only a little bit of litter left in the park. “A team of 15 volunteers gave up their time to come down and help clear up, which I’m really grateful for.”
