Forest super squad is the best

LOLLEY CONVINCED THAT EVERY NEW SIGNING HAS ADDED EXTRA QUALITY

-

NOTTINGHAM Forest have assembled the “strongest squad” Joe Lolley has ever worked with – and he believes there “isn’t anything they cannot achieve” this season.

The winger is full of enthusiasm and confidence after seeing former Terriers teammate Michael Hefele become the 12th signing of the summer on deadline day at the City Ground.

And the end result of a remarkable summer of business at the Championship club is a squad Lolley is convinced is better than the one that he won promotion with at Huddersfield, just over a year ago.

Forest face Reading in the third game of the new campaign today and Lolley, 25, is excited about the potential of this group of players. “It is probably the strongest squad I have ever been a part of, in terms of the depth and quality we have,” he said.

“We have 24 or 25 players who could come into the side and you would not see a massive change in the quality of performance. Each signing has brought quality to the team. Every player we have brought in has improved the team and improved the squad.”

That strength in depth Forest possess has been demonstrated perfectly by the quality of the players who have had to watch from the stand, in the two games so far.

And Lolley believes the motivation the situation will inspire could prove invaluable. “Players like Soudani, Cashy, Worrall, Brereton, Bridcutt and Yates have all missed out on a place in the squad in games. These are good players,” said Lolley.

“But I am sure they will get their chances, throughout the season. It is up to the players who are in the side to keep their shirt, at the same time.

“It was important that we bought players in, we had to. Now you need to perform when you come into the side. Not everything is going to go perfectly in games. But it is important to perform consistently, because you know there are players to come in, to take your place, if you do not do that.

“I am massively excited. I don’t think there is anything we cannot achieve with this squad. Promotion is the aim, realistically, for everyone. You always want to set your standards high. You want to go out and try to win every game. We are not here to make up the numbers.’’
