Karanka plans to repay loyal fans

Nottingham Post - - SPORT -

AITOR Karanka says he will continue to work hard to make Nottingham Forest fans “proud” of their team – after seeing the club notch up 21,000 season ticket sales.

The landmark was reached on Saturday, prior to the Reds’ 1-0 win over Reading, in front of a packed City Ground crowd.

Karanka says he is pleased Forest will have such impressive levels of support this season – and hopes to repay fans with performances on the pitch.

“I am really pleased for the club and, when I work every day, it is for them (the fans),” said Karanka.

“Since I arrived here, I felt that there was respect and I said in my first press conference that I wanted to show the crowd how good we are; how committed everyone is to this club. I am really pleased to make them proud of their team.”

Forest were not always at their best against a well organised, determined Reading side.

But a goal from Hillal Soudani was enough to secure three points and Karanka says it is vital Forest still got the job done, despite not always reaching the heights they had done, performancewise, against Bristol City and West Brom.

“It is important because it is impossible to always play to the same level we did on Tuesday. It is impossible,” said Karanka.

“So it is important that, when we had the ball, we played really well. We had played three games in a row so we were not completely fresh. But when we did not have the ball, at least we were organised.

“I think that is vital in the Championship. Now we must keep growing, we must keep believing and we must keep enjoying it.

“I do not know (if we deserved to win). But we deserved to win against Bristol and we deserved to win against West Brom – and we did not win. This time we have won the game, we have kept a clean sheet and we have taken three points. Let’s look forward to the game on Tuesday.”
