THE developer behind plans to transform a former Nottinghamshire brewery into a housing estate says the first properties are expected to be available to rent next summer.

Approval for 75 new rentals at the Mansfield Brewery site in Littleworth was given in August - subject to conditions being met to improve the local infrastructure.

The four-acre site in Littleworth was bought earlier this year by Wise Living, a consortium led by asset manager Icg-longbow and property experts the SDL Group.

Martin Wheeler, co-head of Icglongbow, said the site would be redeveloped with “modern, high quality, accessibly priced housing, which will be available to rent to local families in little less than a year.”

The site has been vacant since the brewery closed in 2002. The buildings on the site were bulldozed and cleared in 2008.

The development will feature a mixture of 12 one-bedroom, 21 two-bedroom, 40 three-bedroom and two fourbedroom detached and semi-detached family homes.

Andy Deller, group strategy director at the SDL Group, added: “We are delighted to have received unanimous support from Mansfield District Council for the scheme, which will give local people the opportunity to leave older rental houses and move into brand new, professionally-managed properties, all built to a high standard.

“This key site occupies a prime location close to the town centre and key local amenities and we expect a high level of interest in the homes when they become available next spring.

“The new properties will be professionally managed by the SDL Group, which currently manages more than 35,000 homes.”

Councillor Dave Saunders, portfolio holder for regeneration and growth at Mansfield District Council , said: “The new Wise Living scheme is good news for the people of Mansfield.

“The proposed development will enhance and integrate well with the character and appearance of the surrounding area and we are very pleased that this brownfield site, which has been out of use for many years, is to be transformed into much-needed, high quality new rental housing.

“Wise Living’s plans will play a major role in regenerating this part of the town and will contribute to the growing demand for rented housing in the town.”
